What I’m Reading This Week: J.R. Ward, Lauren Willig, and Kristan Higgins

May 13, 2017

I won the library jackpost this week! I’d been on the waiting list for a couple of books for a while, and I did the Snoopy happy dance when an email popped up saying my copies were ready.

The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward

I love J.R. Ward’s take-no-prisoners style of writing. She is completely relentless in attacking with exactly the right words in all of your vulnerable spots, and The Bourbon Kings is no exception. I picked this one up after watching the Kentucky Derby last weekend. Filled with bourbon (as the name suggests), horses, and a lot of messed up relationships, I cannot put this book down. If you’ve read Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, you’ll definitely want to check this out.

The Other Daughter by Lauren Willig

This is one that’s been on the list for a while! I just voraciously consumed That Summer by this author, and of course, The Forgotten Room, as you’ve seen on this blog. I’m very excited to dig into this one this week!

On Second Thought by Kristan Higgins

FINALLY!!! I’ve been on the library waiting list for this one forever. Higgins has taken a turn in writing recently, and this book is another along those lines. Like If You Only Knew, this book ventures much further into straight women’s fiction territory, and I’m really enjoying this tangent. These books show how Higgins’ writing has matured, and I love seeing a writer get better and better at her craft. Definitely worth checking out both books!
