This is actually Grandma Clever, my dad’s mom. A very long time ago, she said to me, “Jessie, I cried when you were born, because I thought I wouldn’t get to see you grow up.” I am now on my way into my 30s, and Grandma is heading toward 100. Now when I see her, she says, “Jessie, I just don’t know why I’m still here.” She sits in a wheelchair in a nursing home, beating everyone at bingo, and giving the nurses a hard time. She says to me, “Jessie, how’s your little boy, James?” I don’t have a little boy named James, but Grandma’s mother was a medium, so I just say, “He’s doing great, Grandma,” and wonder when James is going to arrive.
