Letters to My Editor: Read It

September 21, 2015

Welcome back to Letters to My Editor, a series of blog posts hashing out the relationship between an author and editor. In this case, my editor, Kate Homan, is my pen pal, and you can catch her latest letter to me at her blog, Long Story Short.

Dear Kate,

Letters to My EditorHow about this-

There are many instances where I simply have no idea if a comma is needed or not, or if a semi-colon is actually appropriate.  Whether or not something should be capitalized or not, added to another sentence with a conjunction.

As a writer, my main focus is on finishing the first draft.  I’m not looking for the particulars of grammar, but as I write, I find myself stopping on these simple grammatical tasks.

is there a basic text every writer should read on the rules of grammar?  Maybe a website just to verify the little things that might stop the progress of the first draft?

Be sure to subscribe to Kate’s blog to get her response next week!
