A Rose By Any Other Name…

January 17, 2013

A Rose by Any Other NameWell, those are technically Gerber daisies.  But you get what I’m saying.

So this is a post to get some help from you, my readers.  This is a post about Pen Names.

Yes, Pen Names.

Difficult subject.

How many of you have authors that write under various Pen Names?  Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb.  Jayne Ann Krentz and Amanda Quick.  JR Ward and Jessica Bird.  Ok, your turn.  Who is your favorite author, all Pen Names included?

You see the name game used to be played, so authors could be published under different names with different publishing houses.  Not so any more in this new world of self-publishing.  And who wants to maintain two separate websites?  My favorite of the above is Jayne Ann Krentz who combined names in her URL.  Daring move, my fellow writer.

What about the authors who write across multiple genres under the same name?

Suzanne Brockmann just released a new futuristic novel instead of the usual Navy Seal awesomeness under her very own name.  (I’m sure the new novel is awesome as well, I just haven’t read it yet.)

Well, I’ve come to that point in my writing career where I need to make that great decision.

Do I write under multiple Pen Names, or no?

I feel that I am solidly in the No camp, but I want your thoughts.  I am writing children’s picture books, historical romances, and contemporary romances.  I know, that is quite the spectrum.  Hence, my desire for your input.

You are readers everywhere, tell me what you think.

Go on now.  Do it.  Just click that little comment link right down there and get cracking!

Feel free to share this blog post as well.  I want to know what people honestly think.
